A weekly bulletin detailing the latest news and updates from Shopify.

Welcome back to On Brand, we hope you are all feeling settled into January and ready for a 2024 full of growth!

You’ll see On Brand has had a little revamp over the break, we’ll still be publishing the latest eCommerce news every fortnight, but we’re moving our more expert-led, opinion pieces over to our blog each week — which you can find here.

This year is set to be a big one for Superco, and we look forward to sharing all our exciting news with you as the months unfold.

If you were thinking about getting in touch last year but kept putting your growth plans off until the moment was right, there’s no time like the present! Get in touch with our team of Shopify specialists by emailing hello@superco.io.

Hope to see you all soon,

Tom & Tom

Stuff we’re talking about

FedEx unveils 'FDX': a data-driven eCommerce solution. FDX has been designed to offer end-to-end solutions for merchants, including supply chain management, sales, and delivery processes. It’s a strategic move and bold attempt to counter Amazon’s growing dominance in home delivery.

Shopify confirms enterprise software can excel. A recent study underscores the platform's robust capabilities in meeting enterprise needs. Contrasting common issues, Shopify stands out for efficiency and ease in areas such as supply chain, sales, and delivery management 💥

Amazon's AI-generated product names raise eyebrows. Amazon's marketplace has seen a surge in products with peculiar names, evidently generated by the likes of ChatGPT. Although entertaining, it does shine a light on the broader implications of AI in eCommerce, highlighting issues in quality control and authenticity.

Fast-moving consumer goods are outselling electronics in eCommerce. Good news for FMCG brands. Electronics have historically dominated online sales, but the trends are changing due to evolving consumer priorities.

Italian influencer, Chiara Ferragni, is facing a fraud probe for her involvement with a charity-linked cake scam. This should be a wake up call for brands seeking partnerships to boost their exposure — transparency is key, or you can land in hot water.

Rising investment in key DTC sectors. Direct-to-consumer investors anticipate significant growth in conscious fashion, travel, lifestyle, and decor for 2024 and beyond, marking these sectors as trendsetters for the decade.

Amazon once again reduces their workforce. Despite a $9.9 billion profit in the third quarter, Amazon is proceeding with layoffs affecting hundreds at Prime Video and MGM, following over 27,000 job cuts in 2023.

Partner updates

Klaviyo has rolled out a sender requirements checklist for 2024. This comprehensive guide ensures that your marketing emails not only reach your customers' inboxes but also comply with the latest best practices.

Recharge has opened registration for their annual ChargeX conference. This event brings together industry leaders, insights, and innovations in the world of subscription-based eCommerce.

LoyaltyLion gifts brands with a 2024 Promotion Planner. Designed to assist online retailers in planning and executing effective loyalty campaigns, this planner is an invaluable tool for maximising customer engagement and retention throughout the year.

Aoife Teague, Accounts & Partnerships Lead, Octane AI

Please introduce yourself.

My name is Aoife and I work with our Enterprise clients, helping them build quizzes with quiz placement strategies and promotion strategies — I also support by analysing quiz data.

Explain your tech.

Octane AI is a no code Shopify App that allows brands to create beautiful and powerful quizzes that recommend products, grow subscriber lists, collect zero party data, and increase sales.

What makes it special?

We have been building and analysing quizzes for a long time, and are completely customer focused. Our team loves building features, and we take feedback extremely seriously!

It’s also super easy to build quizzes with Octane. We have beautiful templates and design controls. Powerful customization tools and analytics, and our AI technology allows you to build a quiz with one click.

Best in class examples?

Jones Road have created multiple quizzes for multiple products to help their customers get a shade recommendation in a few simple steps.

A really interesting example of JRB's use of data collection is through the results of a concealer quiz. The brand already knew which shade of foundation some customers would be most suited to, so when their new foundation launched, they could send them a colour recommendation, and the segments were already set up and ready to go in Klaviyo.

I'd highly recommend taking one of their quizzes so you can see how much personalization goes into their email flows.

Any offers for friends of Superco?

One month free with Octane — this will give you plenty of time to get your quiz up and running and you can book an onboarding call with me where I will share all of our quiz secrets! You can book here.

If you’re keen for an introduction to Aoife, reach out to Rachel at rachel@superco.io 🤝
